Before You Lead Others, Meet Yourself.
A 2-Day Experiential Leadership Development Journey
Leadership is often described in terms of vision, strategy, decision-making, influence and results.
But before leadership becomes something we do, it is something we are.
The Leader Within is an experiential journey that invites leaders to pause, step back and explore the person behind the position.
Because the way we lead is shaped not only by what we know, but by who we are, what we value, what we fear, what we believe and the experiences that have shaped us.
The journey moves through:
SELF → PURPOSE → INFLUENCE → IMPACT
THE JOURNEY
01 — SELF
Meeting the Leader Within
Leadership begins with self-awareness.
Participants explore the person behind the leadership role — their experiences, values, beliefs, assumptions, strengths, vulnerabilities and fears.
Explorations include:
- The Leader I Am
- The Journey That Made Me
- What Do I Stand For?
- The Invisible Leader
- The Fear Behind the Leader
- My Leadership Blind Spots
- Meeting Myself as a Leader
Reflection:
Who am I when I lead?
02 — PURPOSE
What Do I Stand For?
Leadership without purpose can become simply the pursuit of results.
This stage invites leaders to explore what gives meaning to their leadership and the principles that guide their choices.
Explorations include:
- What gives meaning to my leadership?
- What do I stand for?
- Values and leadership choices
- Purpose beyond position
- The leader I want to become
- What do I want people to experience because I lead them?
Experience: My Leadership Compass
Participants create a personal leadership compass — a reflection of the values, principles and purpose they want to bring into their leadership.
03 — INFLUENCE
Leadership Happens Between People
Leadership is not only about authority.
It is about the ability to build trust, create meaningful relationships, influence without controlling and have conversations that matter.
Explorations include:
- Trust and credibility
- Influence beyond authority
- Relationships and leadership
- Listening beyond words
- Asking powerful questions
- Difficult conversations
- Challenging without controlling
- Creating ownership
Experience: The Conversation I Am Avoiding
A powerful experiential exercise that helps participants explore a conversation they may be postponing, avoiding or finding difficult to initiate.
04 — IMPACT
What Remains Because You Led?
Leadership ultimately becomes visible through its impact — on people, teams and the organisation.
Participants explore how they make decisions, create accountability, develop others and lead through uncertainty and change.
Explorations include:
- Decision-making under pressure
- Accountability
- Leading through uncertainty
- Managing competing priorities
- Creating ownership
- Developing others
- Leading change
- Leadership legacy
Experience: My Leadership Legacy
Participants reflect on a powerful question:
“What will remain because I led?”
A DIFFERENT KIND OF LEADERSHIP JOURNEY
This is not a conventional leadership skills programme.
It is a journey of reflection, discovery and choice.
70–80% Experiential Learning
20–30% Conceptual Inputs
The experience may include:
- Storytelling
- Personal reflection
- River of Life
- Art, Symbols & Metaphors
- Individual and group experiences
- Theatre and role-based activities
- Leadership dilemmas and simulations
- Difficult conversation practices
- Facilitated dialogue
- Peer learning
- Reflection and action planning
The intention is not merely to give leaders more knowledge.
It is to help them see themselves differently.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL EXPLORE
Throughout the journey, participants will be invited to reflect on questions such as:
- Who am I as a leader?
- What experiences have shaped the way I lead?
- What do I stand for?
- What values guide my decisions?
- What assumptions and blind spots influence me?
- What fears affect the way I lead?
- What gives meaning to my leadership?
- How do I influence people beyond my position?
- How do I handle difficult conversations?
- How do I make choices when values and results collide?
- How do I lead through uncertainty and change?
- What kind of leader do I choose to become?
- What will remain because I led?
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Participants are expected to develop:
- Greater leadership self-awareness
- Clarity about personal leadership purpose
- Awareness of values, assumptions and blind spots
- Stronger influence and relationship-building capabilities
- Greater confidence in meaningful conversations
- More conscious decision-making
- Greater ownership and accountability
- Ability to lead through uncertainty and change
- A clearer personal leadership commitment
THE LEADERSHIP QUESTION
At the heart of the journey is one simple question:
“Who am I when I lead?”
Because leadership is not only about the position we hold.
It is about the person we become while holding it.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
The Leader Within is designed for:
- Senior Managers
- Business Leaders
- Functional Heads
- Emerging Leaders
- High-Potential Managers
- Leaders transitioning into larger roles
- Managers preparing for leadership responsibilities
The programme can be adapted to suit different levels of leadership maturity and organisational context.
THE SPINACH APPROACH
At Spinach, we believe meaningful development happens when people experience, reflect and discover — not merely when they listen.
Our approach brings together experiential learning, storytelling, theatre, art, reflection, dialogue, metaphors and workplace realities to create development experiences that stay with participants beyond the programme.
The goal is not to create perfect leaders.
It is to create more conscious leaders.
